Course Description

This course provides fire fighters with the initial training of basic firefighting skills to meet their Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.  The course is a combination of theory and practical skills that are designed to expose students to the functions of a fire fighter and provide an introductory level of fire fighting exposure.

Learner Outcomes

  • Apply your department’s general operating guidelines and rules and regulations in any situation.
  • Effectively use fire department communications.
  • Assist with fire ground operations necessary to ensure life safety, fire control, and property conservation.
  • Perform the activities of prevention, preparedness, and maintenance to effectively reduce the loss of life and property due to fire.

Prerequisites

Must be an active member of the Manitoba Fire Service

Physically and mentally capable of performing the functions of a fire fighter
