Course Description

This course provides the knowledge and skills to operate emergency vehicles, including pre-ignition procedures, proper steering, braking and handling control, and risks associated with emergency response.

  • Lesson 1: The Driver-Operator
  • Lesson 2: Introduction to Apparatus Inspection & Maintenance
  • Lesson 3: Operating Emergency Vehicles

Learner Outcomes

  • Safely and effectively drive a fire apparatus, with knowledge of the skills and abilities required to do so
  • Identify the need for, and substance of, preventative maintenance on fire apparatus, and perform operational inspections of the body, cab, engine compartment, and brakes
  • Discuss the statues and regulations that apply to fire apparatus driver/operators and various concepts that influence driving habits and outcomes, including defensive driving, safe driving procedures, passenger safety, and general driving skills 

Prerequisites

Must be an active member of the Manitoba Fire Service

Minimum Class 4 license (full status) with air brake endorsement
