Course Description

This course provides the knowledge and skills to operate fire pumpers, including pressure regulating devices, principles of drive lines, positive displacement and centrifugal fire pumps, gauges and controls, hydrant pumping, calculations, and basic maintenance checks.

Learner Outcomes

  • Discuss characteristics of water, including pressure, force, friction loss, water hammer, and explore municipal and private water systems
  • Discuss various fire pump types and their components and operations
  • Describe various types of fire department pumpers
  • Describe the positioning of apparatus at an emergency scene, appropriate water sources, and positioning as applicable to static and pressurized water sources
  • Describe various types of fire hose nozzles and their flow rates
  • Perform various pumping operations in a practical environment

Prerequisites

Must be an active member of the Manitoba Fire Service
