Course Description

This course provides the knowledge and skills to respond to common passenger vehicle rescue incidents, including scene size-up and Incident Action Planning, protective and rescue equipment, vehicle anatomy and energy sources, supplemental restraint systems, stabilization, victim access and management, advanced and alternative-fuel vehicle technology, and incident termination.

Learner Outcomes

  • Size up and facilitate Incident Action Planning for common passenger vehicle rescue incidents
  • Select and utilize appropriate personal protection equipment and tools for rescue situations with vehicles on their tires, sides, and roofs
  • Describe vehicle anatomy and mechanical processes in conventional and atypical/alternative-fuel vehicles, including Hybrids and Electric vehicles
  • Engage supplemental restrain systems (seat belts and air bags) for purposes of vehicle extrication
  • Perform vehicle stabilization and extrication techniques involving dash sections, roofs, steering columns, doors, windows, and trunks
  • Perform initial medical care, triage, and transfer for victims impinged upon, partially-ejected, and fully ejected from a vehicle collision
